Gurtej Singh

Gurtej Singh, former Indian Police Services & Indian Admin Services Officer, Writer, and formerly National Professor of Sikhism recounts his extraordinary experiences corresponding with Jarnail Singh Bhinderanwale & the Akalis in the early 1980s–including telephone calls till the phone lines were cut on June 1–and leading up to the 84 attacks. He recounts stories of being forced to “go underground” after being targeted by the Indian government. He remembers a survey done by the Rajiv Gandhi government post the November pogoroms, that shows the desired objective of obliterating the uniqueness of the Sikh Identity. With his exceptional grasp on history and politics, Gurtej Singh charts the history of Sikhs in India from before Partition to Punjabi Suba to propping up anti-Sikh groups in the 1980s, to the current day situation.
