Gurdarshan Singh

“It is not anger or frustration, but it is a deeply held desire, that this community deserves much more honor, respect, dignity, pride…”

Gurdarshan Singh’s interview shares wide-ranging experiences: from the death of 90 per cent of his friends, who he studied with and grew up with in the Taksal; to his personal relationship with Jarnail Singh Bhinderanwale; to his two closest friends being removed from the Ludhiana jail and shot dead without any process; to a movingly honest narration of his helplessness in November 1984 while being unable to help a family with very young children because neighbors in their Delhi colony refused more Sikhs from taking shelter in the large Sikh home.

“When you live in an environment where you never experience the true meaning of freedom… and then you move to a country where you personally experience what freedom entails… and you stop accepting injustices in the face of legitimate demands.”
