Jaswinder Singh

On this day, 31 years ago, Jaswinder Singh remembers joining other Ludhiana students in wearing black badges and marching in protest during Republic Day, January 26, 1985– on the heels of the assaults and pogroms of 1984. He joined the Sikh Student Federation then and was arrested on a regular basis. His seniors in college, took to armed militancy. “The reason to go into militancy was the government policy of harassment of these sikh students…” he explains. He hopes students today will listen to these stories and learn their very recent history.
