Satinder Kaur, Seema

On this day in June 1984, Darbar Sahib finally reopened to the public after being closed off for three weeks. Satinder Kaur, who was then ten years old and lived in Amritsar, remembers seeing gunshots and demolition. In this video, she narrates the course of events throughout the month of June, from the terror of experiencing the curfew to the trauma of hearing cannon fire. In the months and years that followed, her family would visit Darbar Sahib almost every day, participating in the Kaar Seva, the community-led clean-up of the grounds.
