Hari Singh Saran

Hari Singh Saran lived in Hayward, California, at the time of attack in June 1984. Speaking with the 1984 Living History Project team, he becomes emotional as he recalls the difficult memories of the propaganda, which he tried to counter. Speaking about the killing of Indira Gandhi, Sardar Saran shares that he stopped teenagers from celebrating her death. “She already got the punishment she deserved for her crimes, there’s no need to celebrate someone’s death,” he says. He also talks about how Indian Government stopped humanitarian aid sent by Sikhs living in California. “We were told we could only send aid through Rajiv Gandhi fund, not to the victim families of 1984.”
