Sarmol Singh

Sarmol Singh was born in 1949. As a farmer, he recalls being confined to his home during 1984 because of the state imposed curfew, which started on June 2. He recalls some Sikh activists who were staying at his local Gurdwara. In his interview with the 1984 Living History Project, Sarmol Singh recalls his entire village was surrounded by the CRP (Central Reserve Police), who later invaded the Gurdwara and even shot inside the building asking some Sikhs to come out. He also questions the role of media for reporting under the State’s influence to undermine the destruction caused by the Army at Darbar Sahib. At least 7-8 Sikh youth from his own village were murdered by the government forces post June 1984.
